Blasts from the Past

Thought I've been creating digital art for years, I'm largely self-taught. Sometimes I like to go back and look at what I've done. Now that I have more knowledge and skills, I have decided to recreate some of my earlier works.
The image on the left was created in 2023, and the right was created in 2017. Both are of a statue that sits outside of Thalia Mara Hall in Mississippi.

For the image on the left, I took the photo this image is based off of and messed with the threshold of the image in Photoshop. I imported two copies of the file into Illustrator and used the image trace tool to create two versions: an outline for the positive space, and a silhouette to fill in the negative space. I filled the background in with a navy blue to give the illusion that the image was popping out of the background.

For the image on the right, I adjusted the threshold in Photoshop and then used the paint bucket tool to fill in the colors.
The original ice cream cones at the bottom were inspired by pop art. In 2022, I wanted to see if I could recreate those pop art ice cream cones used a slightly different technique.

For the ice cream cones, I used the shape tool in Illustrator to create an ice cream scoop shape, and then used the shape tool to create the shadow of the ice cream cone. The waffle cone marks are clipped onto the cone shape.

For the ones on the bottom row, I adjusted the threshold in Photoshop and then used the pain bucket tool to fill in the colors.
